Linux Kernel up to 5.10.141/5.15.65/5.19.7 clk raspberrypi_discover_clocks out-of-bounds

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10.141/5.15.65/5.19.7 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function raspberrypi_discover_clocks of the component clk. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: clk: bcm: rpi: Prevent out-of-bounds access The while loop in raspberrypi_discover_clocks() relies on the assumption that the id of the last clock element is zero. Because this data comes from the Videocore firmware and it doesn't guarantuee such a behavior this could lead to out-of-bounds access. So fix this by providing a sentinel element.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2022-49946 since 06/18/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 246674 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2022-49946), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 5.10.142, 5.15.66 or 5.19.8 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch fcae47b2d23c81603b01f56cf8db63ed64599d34/ff0b144d4b0a9fbd6efe4d2c0a4b6c9bae2138d2/c8b04b731d43366824841ebdca4ac715f95e0ea4/bc163555603e4ae9c817675ad80d618a4cdbfa2d is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (246674) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-1350). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
