Linux Kernel up to 5.19.1 intel_th pci_alloc_irq_vectors memory leak

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.4.210/5.10.136/5.15.60/5.18.17/5.19.1 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function pci_alloc_irq_vectors of the component intel_th. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: intel_th: Fix a resource leak in an error handling path If an error occurs after calling 'pci_alloc_irq_vectors()', 'pci_free_irq_vectors()' must be called as already done in the remove function.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2022-50143 since 06/18/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 5.4.211, 5.10.137, 5.15.61, 5.18.18 or 5.19.2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 859342220accd0d332864fafbf4e3d2d0492bc3f/a8f3b78b1f8e959d06801ae82149f140a75724e8/9b5469573a274729bdb04b60a8d71f8d09940a31/ed4d5ecb7d7fd80336afb2f9ac6685651a6aa32f/fae9da7d4c2ccad3792de03e3cac1fe2bfabb73d/086c28ab7c5699256aced0049aae9c42f1410313 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-1350). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
