Microsoft Excel 2000 through 2004 allows user-assisted attackers to execute arbitrary code via a .xls file with a crafted BIFF record with an attacker-controlled array index that is used for a function pointer, aka "Malformed OBJECT record Vulnerability."
The weakness was disclosed 07/13/2006 by Sowhat with Nevis Labs as confirmed posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-1306 since 03/20/2006. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx.
