Linux Kernel up to 5.19.1 ARM of_find_matching_node reference count

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.19.1 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function of_find_matching_node of the component ARM. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a reference count vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-911. The product uses a reference count to manage a resource, but it does not update or incorrectly updates the reference count. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ARM: bcm: Fix refcount leak in bcm_kona_smc_init of_find_matching_node() returns a node pointer with refcount incremented, we should use of_node_put() on it when not need anymore. Add missing of_node_put() to avoid refcount leak.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2022-50207 since 06/18/2025. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 245194 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2022-50207), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 4.14.291, 4.19.256, 5.4.211, 5.10.137, 5.15.61, 5.18.18 or 5.19.2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 62d719d31ec667276d7375b64542b080cf187797/75866df2b1d673df5b7781e565ada753a7895f04/5afe042c889437de83f38a9d73d145742fb4f65f/91e7f04f53e680bc72f0a9a5c682ab652100b9c8/bc7f487395f208fd9af69e9a807815e10435aba7/c6964cb9ac7a43bf78e7d60126e2722992de2ea1/cb23389a2458c2e4bfd6c86a513cbbe1c4d35e76 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (245194) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-1350). Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
