CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 (Web Browser). Affected is an unknown part of the component HTTP Basic Authentication IDN Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, when prompting for HTTP Basic Authentication for an IDN web site, uses ACE labels for the domain name in the status bar, but uses internationalized labels for this name in the authentication dialog, which might allow remote attackers to perform phishing attacks if the user misinterprets confusable characters in the internationalized labels, as demonstrated by displaying xn--theshmogroup-bgk.com only in the status bar.

The issue has been introduced in 07/27/2005. The weakness was disclosed 06/14/2007 by Alex (Website). The advisory is shared for download at bitsploit.de. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2007-3164 since 06/11/2007. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $25k-$100k (estimation calculated on 03/15/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product decreasing in the near future. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 684 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.

The best possible mitigation is suggested to be disabling the affected component.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (34867), SecurityFocus (BID 24483†), OSVDB (36142†), Secunia (SA25663†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-38687†). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
