Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in JuliaRegistries Registrator.jl up to 1.9.4. Affected is the function gettreesha. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a argument injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-88. The product constructs a string for a command to be executed by a separate component
in another control sphere, but it does not properly delimit the
intended arguments, options, or switches within that command string. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Registrator is a GitHub app that automates creation of registration pull requests for julia packages to the General registry. Prior to version 1.9.5, if the clone URL returned by GitHub is malicious (or can be injected using upstream vulnerabilities), an argument injection is possible in the `gettreesha()` function. This can then lead to a potential remote code execution. Users should upgrade immediately to v1.9.5 to receive a patch. All prior versions are vulnerable. No known workarounds are available.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-52480 since 06/17/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
Upgrading to version 1.9.5 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2025-19119). VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
