Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.142/6.6.95/6.12.35/6.15.4 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function wcd9335_parse_dt of the component ASoC. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: codecs: wcd9335: Fix missing free of regulator supplies Driver gets and enables all regulator supplies in probe path (wcd9335_parse_dt() and wcd9335_power_on_reset()), but does not cleanup in final error paths and in unbind (missing remove() callback). This leads to leaked memory and unbalanced regulator enable count during probe errors or unbind. Fix this by converting entire code into devm_regulator_bulk_get_enable() which also greatly simplifies the code.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2025-38259 since 04/16/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 05/02/2026).
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 270134 (Debian dla-4328 : linux-config-6.1 - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.1.143, 6.6.96, 6.12.36, 6.15.5 or 6.16-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch edadaf4239c14dc8a19ea7f60b97d5524d93c29b/9830ef1803a5bc50b4a984a06cf23142cd46229d/a8795f3cd289cd958f6396a1b43ba46fa8e22a2e/b86280aaa23c1c0f31bcaa600d35ddc45bc38b7a/9079db287fc3e38e040b0edeb0a25770bb679c8e is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (270134), EUVD (EUVD-2025-20802) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-1517). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
