Upgrading the affected component is recommended.
Details
A vulnerability was found in SQLite up to 3.50.1. It has been rated as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component Aggregate Term Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a numeric truncation error vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-197. Truncation errors occur when a primitive is cast to a primitive of a smaller size and data is lost in the conversion. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
There exists a vulnerability in SQLite versions before 3.50.2 where the number of aggregate terms could exceed the number of columns available. This could lead to a memory corruption issue. We recommend upgrading to version 3.50.2 or above.
The weakness was disclosed by Vlad Stolyarov. The advisory is shared for download at sqlite.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2025-6965 since 07/01/2025. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 242942 (Oracle Linux 8 : nodejs:22 (ELSA-2025-11803)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 3.50.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Exploit-DB (52499), Tenable (242942), EUVD (EUVD-2025-21441) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-1646). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
