A vulnerability was found in Lhaplus 1.52 and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown function of the file lhaplus.exe. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). Heap-based buffer overflow in Lhaplus.exe in Lhaplus 1.52, and possibly earlier versions, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via an LZH archive with a long header, as specified by the extendedHeaderSize.
The weakness was presented 07/31/2006 by Tan Chew Keong (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-4033 since 08/09/2006. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
