Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.38/6.15.6/6.16-rc5 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function snd_card_ad1816a_pnp of the component ALSA. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: ad1816a: Fix potential NULL pointer deref in snd_card_ad1816a_pnp() Use pr_warn() instead of dev_warn() when 'pdev' is NULL to avoid a potential NULL pointer dereference.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2025-38454 since 04/16/2025. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 276629 (Ubuntu 24.04 LTS / 25.04 : Linux kernel vulnerabilities (USN-7879-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
