Details
A vulnerability was found in ADOdb up to 5.22.9. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function metaColumns/metaForeignKeys/metaIndexes of the component Table Name Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
ADOdb is a PHP database class library that provides abstractions for performing queries and managing databases. In versions 5.22.9 and below, improper escaping of a query parameter may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary SQL statements when the code using ADOdb connects to a sqlite3 database and calls the metaColumns(), metaForeignKeys() or metaIndexes() methods with a crafted table name. This is fixed in version 5.22.10. To workaround this issue, only pass controlled data to metaColumns(), metaForeignKeys() and metaIndexes() method's $table parameter.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2025-54119 since 07/17/2025. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 253415 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2025-54119), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.22.10 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 5b8bd52cdcffefb4ecded1b399c98cfa516afe03 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
