A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Mambo (Content Management System). This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file contentpublisher.php of the component Publisher. ** DISPUTED ** PHP remote file inclusion vulnerability in contentpublisher.php in the contentpublisher component (com_contentpublisher) for Mambo allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary PHP code via a URL in the mosConfig_absolute_path parameter. NOTE: this issue has been disputed by third parties who state that contentpublisher.php protects against direct request in the most recent version. The original researcher is known to be frequently inaccurate.
The weakness was disclosed 08/17/2006 by Crackers_child as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-4286 since 08/22/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. By approaching the search of inurl:contentpublisher.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
