A vulnerability was found in oakserver oak up to 17.1.5 and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Header Handler. The manipulation of the argument x-forwarded-proto/x-forwarded-for with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. oak is a middleware framework for Deno's native HTTP server, Deno Deploy, Node.js 16.5 and later, Cloudflare Workers and Bun. In versions 17.1.5 and below, it's possible to significantly slow down an oak server with specially crafted values of the x-forwarded-proto or x-forwarded-for headers.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-55152 since 08/07/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1499 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
Upgrading to version 17.1.6 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch b60e60330ef227707c4dc13ef0ea36192d894f44 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
