Details
A vulnerability was found in ImageMagick up to 6.9.13-26/7.1.2-0. It has been classified as problematic. This affects an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a reliance on undefined, unspecified, or implementation-defined behavior vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-758. The product uses an API function, data structure, or other entity in a way that relies on properties that are not always guaranteed to hold for that entity. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
ImageMagick is free and open-source software used for editing and manipulating digital images. Prior to versions 6.9.13-27 and 7.1.2-1, there is undefined behavior (function-type-mismatch) in splay tree cloning callback. This results in a deterministic abort under UBSan (DoS in sanitizer builds), with no crash in a non-sanitized build. This issue has been patched in versions 6.9.13-27 and 7.1.2-1.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2025-55160 since 08/07/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
