Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.38/6.15.6. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part of the component LMTT Page Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. The impact remains unknown. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/xe/pf: Clear all LMTT pages on alloc Our LMEM buffer objects are not cleared by default on alloc and during VF provisioning we only setup LMTT PTEs for the actually provisioned LMEM range. But beyond that valid range we might leave some stale data that could either point to some other VFs allocations or even to the PF pages. Explicitly clear all new LMTT page to avoid the risk that a malicious VF would try to exploit that gap. While around add asserts to catch any undesired PTE overwrites and low-level debug traces to track LMTT PT life-cycle. (cherry picked from commit 3fae6918a3e27cce20ded2551f863fb05d4bef8d)
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2025-38511 since 04/16/2025. The exploitation appears to be difficult. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 272151 (SUSE SLES15 Security Update : kernel RT (Live Patch 0 for SLE 15 SP7) (SUSE-SU-2025:3886-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.12.39 or 6.15.7 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch ff4b8c9ade1b82979fdd01e6f45b60f92eed26d8/5d21892c2e15b6a27f8bc907693eca7c6b7cc269/705a412a367f383430fa34bada387af2e52eb043 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (272151), EUVD (EUVD-2025-25087) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-1858). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
