A vulnerability was found in Joomla CMS up to 1.0.10 (Content Management System). It has been classified as critical. This affects the function include_once of the file globals.php of the component htaccess. The manipulation of the argument options with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in Joomla! before 1.0.11, related to "Injection Flaws," allow attackers to have an unknown impact via (1) globals.php, which uses include_once() instead of require(); (2) the $options variable; (3) Admin Upload Image; (4) ->load(); (5) content submissions when frontpage is selected; (6) the mosPageNav constructor; (7) saveOrder functions; (8) the absence of "exploit blocking rules" in htaccess; and (9) the ACL.
The weakness was disclosed 08/31/2006 (Website). The advisory is shared at joomla.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2006-4476 since 08/31/2006. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:globals.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 22297 (Joomla! < 1.0.11 administrator/index.php Input Weakness), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.
Upgrading to version 1.0.11 eliminates this vulnerability.
