Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in EzGED3 3.5.0. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Password Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a weak password hash vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-916. The product generates a hash for a password, but it uses a scheme that does not provide a sufficient level of computational effort that would make password cracking attacks infeasible or expensive. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
EzGED3 3.5.0 stores user passwords using an insecure hashing scheme: md5(md5(password)). This hashing method is cryptographically weak and allows attackers to perform efficient offline brute-force attacks if password hashes are disclosed. The lack of salting and use of a fast, outdated algorithm makes it feasible to recover plaintext credentials using precomputed tables or GPU-based cracking tools. The vendor states that the issue is fixed in 3.5.72.27183.
The advisory is shared at ballpoint.fr. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2025-51540 since 06/16/2025. The exploitation is known to be difficult. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1552 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 3.5.72.27183 eliminates this vulnerability.
