Docker Desktop up to 4.44.2 on Windows API exposure of resource

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Docker Desktop up to 4.44.2 on Windows. It has been classified as critical. Affected is some unknown processing of the component API. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a exposure of resource vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-668. The product exposes a resource to the wrong control sphere, providing unintended actors with inappropriate access to the resource. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

A vulnerability was identified in Docker Desktop that allows local running Linux containers to access the Docker Engine API via the configured Docker subnet, at 192.168.65.7:2375 by default. This vulnerability occurs with or without Enhanced Container Isolation (ECI) enabled, and with or without the "Expose daemon on tcp://localhost:2375 without TLS" option enabled. This can lead to execution of a wide range of privileged commands to the engine API, including controlling other containers, creating new ones, managing images etc. In some circumstances (e.g. Docker Desktop for Windows with WSL backend) it also allows mounting the host drive with the same privileges as the user running Docker Desktop.

The weakness was disclosed by Felix Boulet and Zer0x64. The advisory is available at docs.docker.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-9074 since 08/15/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Upgrading to version 4.44.3 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Exploit-DB (52472) and EUVD (EUVD-2025-25308). If you want to get best quality of vulnerability data, you may have to visit VulDB.
