A vulnerability has been found in vtiger CRM 4.2/4.2.4 (Customer Relationship Management System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the file index.php of the component Settings Module. The manipulation of the argument module with an unknown input leads to a remote code execution vulnerability. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
vtiger CRM 4.2.4, and possibly earlier, allows remote attackers to bypass authentication and access administrative modules via a direct request to index.php with a modified module parameter, as demonstrated using the Settings module.
The weakness was released 08/29/2006 by Ivan Markovic (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-4588 since 09/06/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
It is possible to mitigate the problem by adding an authentication mechanism.
