Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.17-rc2. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function qla4xxx_get_ep_fwdb. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: qla4xxx: Prevent a potential error pointer dereference The qla4xxx_get_ep_fwdb() function is supposed to return NULL on error, but qla4xxx_ep_connect() returns error pointers. Propagating the error pointers will lead to an Oops in the caller, so change the error pointers to NULL.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-39676 since 04/16/2025. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
