Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.16.3 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component crypto. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a control flow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-670. The code contains a control flow path that does not reflect the algorithm that the path is intended to implement, leading to incorrect behavior any time this path is navigated. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: acomp - Fix CFI failure due to type punning To avoid a crash when control flow integrity is enabled, make the workspace ("stream") free function use a consistent type, and call it through a function pointer that has that same type.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2025-39777 since 04/16/2025. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 11/27/2025).
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 264728 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2025-39777), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.16.4 or 6.17-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
