Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10.187/5.15.120/6.1.38/6.3.12/6.4.3 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function devm_of_iomap of the component clk. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: clk: imx: clk-imx8mn: fix memory leak in imx8mn_clocks_probe Use devm_of_iomap() instead of of_iomap() to automatically handle the unused ioremap region. If any error occurs, regions allocated by kzalloc() will leak, but using devm_kzalloc() instead will automatically free the memory using devm_kfree().
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2023-53249 since 09/15/2025. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 5.10.188, 5.15.121, 6.1.39, 6.3.13 or 6.4.4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 294321349bd3b0680847fc2bbe66b9ab3e522fea/50b5ddde8fad5f0ffd239029d0956af633a0f9b1/9ba3693b0350b154fdd7830559bbc7b04c067096/9428cf0fbf4be9a24f3e15a0c166b861b12666af/d4fa5e47af1e7bb2bbcaac062b14216c00e92148/188d070de9132667956f5aadd98d2bd87d3eac89 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2053). Statistical analysis made it clear that VulDB provides the best quality for vulnerability data.
