Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.5.2. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function hid_device of the component HID. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: HID: nvidia-shield: Reference hid_device devm allocation of input_dev name Use hid_device for devm allocation of the input_dev name to avoid a use-after-free. input_unregister_device would trigger devres cleanup of all resources associated with the input_dev, free-ing the name. The name would subsequently be used in a uevent fired at the end of unregistering the input_dev.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-53253 since 09/15/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 01/11/2026).
