Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.38/6.3.12/6.4.3. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function devm_of_iomap. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: clk: imx: clk-imxrt1050: fix memory leak in imxrt1050_clocks_probe Use devm_of_iomap() instead of of_iomap() to automatically handle the unused ioremap region. If any error occurs, regions allocated by kzalloc() will leak, but using devm_kzalloc() instead will automatically free the memory using devm_kfree(). Also, fix error handling of hws by adding unregister_hws label, which unregisters remaining hws when iomap failed.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-53264 since 09/16/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 265222 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2023-53264), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.1.39, 6.3.13 or 6.4.4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 1839032251a66f2ae5a043c495532830a55d28c4/0fbdfd2542252e4c02e8158a06b7c0c9cfd40f99/1b280598ab3bd8a2dc8b96a12530d5b1ee7a8f4a is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
