Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.4.15/6.5.2 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function ipu_bridge_parse_rotation of the component PLD Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: ipu-bridge: Fix null pointer deref on SSDB/PLD parsing warnings When ipu_bridge_parse_rotation() and ipu_bridge_parse_orientation() run sensor->adev is not set yet. So if either of the dev_warn() calls about unknown values are hit this will lead to a NULL pointer deref. Set sensor->adev earlier, with a borrowed ref to avoid making unrolling on errors harder, to fix this.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-53336 since 09/16/2025. The exploitation appears to be difficult. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
