The manipulation of the argument Cat with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-80. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in WWWthreads 5.4.2 and earlier allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the Cat parameter to (1) dosearch.php, (2) postlist.php, (3) showmembers.php, (4) faq_english.php, (5) online.php, (6) login.php, (7) newuser.php, (8) wwwthreads.php, (9) search.php, or (10) postlist.php.
The weakness was shared 09/27/2006 by Root3r_H3ll (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-5059 since 09/27/2006. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059.007 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:dosearch.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
