A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in KGB 1.87. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the file kgcall.php. The manipulation of the argument engine with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in kgcall.php in KGB 1.87 allows remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local files via a .. (dot dot) in the engine parameter, as demonstrated by uploading a file containing PHP code with an image/jpeg content type, and then referencing this file through the engine parameter.
The weakness was disclosed 10/03/2006 by Kacper (Website). The advisory is available at milw0rm.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-5115 since 10/02/2006. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known.
