CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.120/6.1.39/6.4.4 and classified as critical. The affected element is the function qcom_swrm_get_port_config of the file drivers/soundwire/qcom.c of the component soundwire. Executing a manipulation can lead to buffer overflow. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-53465. There is not any exploit available. It is suggested to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.120/6.1.39/6.4.4 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function qcom_swrm_get_port_config of the file drivers/soundwire/qcom.c of the component soundwire. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: soundwire: qcom: fix storing port config out-of-bounds The 'qcom_swrm_ctrl->pconfig' has size of QCOM_SDW_MAX_PORTS (14), however we index it starting from 1, not 0, to match real port numbers. This can lead to writing port config past 'pconfig' bounds and overwriting next member of 'qcom_swrm_ctrl' struct. Reported also by smatch: drivers/soundwire/qcom.c:1269 qcom_swrm_get_port_config() error: buffer overflow 'ctrl->pconfig' 14 <= 14

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2023-53465 since 10/01/2025. The exploitation appears to be easy. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 01/20/2026).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 269629 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2023-53465), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 5.15.121, 6.1.40 or 6.4.5 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 20f7c4d51c94abb1a1a7c21900db4fb5afe5c8ff/801daff0078087b5df9145c9f5e643c28129734b/32eb67d7360d48c15883e0d21b29c0aab9da022e/490937d479abe5f6584e69b96df066bc87be92e9 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (269629) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2187). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
