Buffer overflow in AOL You ve Got Pictures (YGP) Pic Downloader YGPPDownload ActiveX control (AOL.PicDownloadCtrl.1, YGPPicDownload.dll), as used in America Online 9.0 Security Edition, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long argument to the SetAlbumName method.
The weakness was presented 10/10/2006 by Will Dormann with CERT/CC as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-3888 since 07/26/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
