Liferay Portal/DXP FreeMarker Template insertion of sensitive information into sent data

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Liferay Portal and DXP (the affected version is unknown). Affected is an unknown code of the component FreeMarker Template. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a insertion of sensitive information into sent data vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-201. The code transmits data to another actor, but a portion of the data includes sensitive information that should not be accessible to that actor. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

A vulnerability in Liferay Portal 7.4.0 through 7.4.3.132, and Liferay DXP 2025.Q1.0 through 2025.Q1.4, 2024.Q4.0 through 2024.Q4.5, 2024.Q3.0 through 2024.Q3.13, 2024.Q2.1 through 2024.Q2.13, 2024.Q1.1 through 2024.Q1.12, 2023.Q4.0 through 2023.Q4.10, 2023.Q3.1 through 2023.Q3.10, and 7.4 GA through update 92 allows sensitive user data to be included in the Freemarker template. This weakness permits an unauthorized actor to gain access to, and potentially render, confidential information that should remain restricted.
