Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.193/6.1.153/6.6.107/6.12.48/6.16.8 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function tcpc_client of the component drm. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm: bridge: anx7625: Fix NULL pointer dereference with early IRQ If the interrupt occurs before resource initialization is complete, the interrupt handler/worker may access uninitialized data such as the I2C tcpc_client device, potentially leading to NULL pointer dereference.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2025-39934 since 04/16/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 274816 (Debian dsa-6053 : affs-modules-6.1.0-37-4kc-malta-di - security update), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.15.194, 6.1.154, 6.6.108, 6.12.49 or 6.16.9 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 51a501e990a353a4f15da6bab295b28e5d118f64/f9a089d0a6d537d0f2061c8a37a7de535ce0310e/15a77e1ab0a994d69b471c76b8d01117128dda26/0da73f7827691a5e2265b110d5fe12f29535ec92/1a7ea294d57fb61485d11b3f2241d631d73025cb/a10f910c77f280327b481e77eab909934ec508f0 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (274816) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2194). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
