Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10.149/5.15.74/5.19.16/6.0.2 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function ext4_fc_record_regions. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ext4: fix potential memory leak in ext4_fc_record_regions() As krealloc may return NULL, in this case 'state->fc_regions' may not be freed by krealloc, but 'state->fc_regions' already set NULL. Then will lead to 'state->fc_regions' memory leak.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2022-50512 since 10/07/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 319448 (EulerOS Virtualization 2.13.1 : kernel (EulerOS-SA-2026-2132)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.10.150, 5.15.75, 5.19.17 or 6.0.3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 2cfb769d60a2a57eb3566765428b6131cd16dcfe/417b0455a0b6d0f60a2930592731d1f8340e24be/a4058b869e6c5e517c79e30532a350d0f3115c3e/518566e71ad86b7c2f1bf6d9caee9588bb7ac158/7069d105c1f15c442b68af43f7fde784f3126739 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (319448) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2229). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
