Linux Kernel up to 6.0.18/6.1.4 amdgpu_bo_validate_size uninitialized pointer

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

This vulnerability is listed as CVE-2022-50527. There is no available exploit. The affected component should be upgraded.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.0.18/6.1.4. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is the function amdgpu_bo_validate_size. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a uninitialized pointer vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-824. The product accesses or uses a pointer that has not been initialized. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdgpu: Fix size validation for non-exclusive domains (v4) Fix amdgpu_bo_validate_size() to check whether the TTM domain manager for the requested memory exists, else we get a kernel oops when dereferencing "man". v2: Make the patch standalone, i.e. not dependent on local patches. v3: Preserve old behaviour and just check that the manager pointer is not NULL. v4: Complain if GTT domain requested and it is uninitialized--most likely a bug.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2022-50527 since 10/07/2025. The exploitation is known to be easy. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 04/19/2026).

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 297090 (SUSE SLES12 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2026:0316-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 6.0.19 or 6.1.5 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 80546eef216854a7bd47e39e828f04b406c00599/8ba7c55e112f4ffd2a95b99be1cb1c891ef08ba1/7554886daa31eacc8e7fac9e15bbce67d10b8f1f is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (297090) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2229). Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
