Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.54/6.5.4. Affected by this issue is the function ice_eswitch_port_start_xmit of the component ice. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ice: Don't tx before switchdev is fully configured There is possibility that ice_eswitch_port_start_xmit might be called while some resources are still not allocated which might cause NULL pointer dereference. Fix this by checking if switchdev configuration was finished.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2023-53657 since 10/07/2025. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
