Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.0.15/6.1.1. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function hi846_parse_dt of the component media. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: i2c: hi846: Fix memory leak in hi846_parse_dt() If any of the checks related to the supported link frequencies fail, then the V4L2 fwnode resources don't get released before returning, which leads to a memleak. Fix this by properly freeing the V4L2 fwnode data in a designated label.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2022-50548 since 10/07/2025. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
