CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.10.219/5.15.106/6.1.23/6.2.10. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function OPDESC. The manipulation of the argument nfsd4_ops with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFSD: Avoid calling OPDESC() with ops->opnum == OP_ILLEGAL OPDESC() simply indexes into nfsd4_ops[] by the op's operation number, without range checking that value. It assumes callers are careful to avoid calling it with an out-of-bounds opnum value. nfsd4_decode_compound() is not so careful, and can invoke OPDESC() with opnum set to OP_ILLEGAL, which is 10044 -- well beyond the end of nfsd4_ops[].

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-53680 since 10/07/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 277757 (Amazon Linux 2 : kernel, --advisory ALAS2KERNEL-5.4-2025-115 (ALASKERNEL-5.4-2025-115)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 5.10.220, 5.15.107, 6.1.24 or 6.2.11 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 50827896c365e0f6c8b55ed56d444dafd87c92c5/a64160124d5a078be0c380b1e8a0bad2d040d3a1/ffcbcf087581ae68ddc0a21460f7ecd4315bdd0e/f352c41fa718482979e7e6b71b4da2b718e381cc/804d8e0a6e54427268790472781e03bc243f4ee3 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (277757) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2229). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
