Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.4.4. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function s3c24xx_serial_getclk of the component tty. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: tty: serial: samsung_tty: Fix a memory leak in s3c24xx_serial_getclk() when iterating clk When the best clk is searched, we iterate over all possible clk. If we find a better match, the previous one, if any, needs to be freed. If a better match has already been found, we still need to free the new one, otherwise it leaks.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-53687 since 10/07/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 276910 (SUSE SLES12 Security Update : kernel (SUSE-SU-2025:4189-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 4.14.322, 4.19.291, 5.4.251, 5.10.188, 5.15.121, 6.1.40 or 6.4.5 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 933e5b2998bc3a527d15efbf1e97c9e63297aa3c/01dd8a43a84616c830782166ba3cceb01ad95363/46574e5a0a2aee41e6ebb979cfe1dbaea8693e16/1962717c4649e026a4252fe6625175affd28a593/9dd8091959bc41fee51d0827276a2b982e84adf0/f0bf102ef9b05d7294bd8d506755465f6867d944/1f426293fef1c13742b2a685bf7e363f51f6ee03/832e231cff476102e8204a9e7bddfe5c6154a375 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (276910) and CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2229). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
