Details
A vulnerability was found in Dell PowerProtect Data Domain with Data Domain Operating System of Feature Release, PowerProtect Data Domain with Data Domain Operating System LTS2024 and PowerProtect Data Domain with Data Domain Operating System LTS2023 up to 8.1.0.10. It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Dell PowerProtect Data Domain with Data Domain Operating System (DD OS) of Feature Release versions 7.7.1.0 through 8.1.0.10, LTS2024 release Versions 7.13.1.0 through 7.13.1.25, LTS 2023 release versions 7.10.1.0 through 7.10.1.50, contain an Improper Neutralization of Special Elements used in an OS Command ('OS Command Injection') vulnerability. A high privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to arbitrary command execution. Exploitation may allow privilege escalation to root.
The advisory is shared at dell.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2025-36566 since 04/15/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/08/2025). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1202 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 8.3.0.10 eliminates this vulnerability.
