Linux Kernel up to 6.16.8 clk recalc_rate divide by zero

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.16.8. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function recalc_rate of the component clk. Such manipulation leads to divide by zero. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-39954. There is no exploit available. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.16.8 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function recalc_rate of the component clk. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a divide by zero vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-369. The product divides a value by zero. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: clk: sunxi-ng: mp: Fix dual-divider clock rate readback When dual-divider clock support was introduced, the P divider offset was left out of the .recalc_rate readback function. This causes the clock rate to become bogus or even zero (possibly due to the P divider being 1, leading to a divide-by-zero). Fix this by incorporating the P divider offset into the calculation.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2025-39954 since 04/16/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 270272 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2025-39954), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
