A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Oracle Database Server 9.2.0.7 (Database Software). Affected is some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in the Change Data Capture (CDC) component in Oracle Database 9.2.0.7, 10.1.0.5, and have unknown impact and remote authenticated attack vectors related to (1) sys.dbms_cdc_ipublish (Vuln# DB05) and (2) sys.dbms_cdc_isubscribe (DB06). NOTE: as of 20061023, Oracle has not disputed reports from reliable third parties that DB05 is for SQL injection in CREATE_CHANGE_TABLE and CHANGE_TABLE_TRIGGER, and DB06 is for PL/SQL injection in the PREPARE_UNBOUNDED_VIEW procedure.
The weakness was published 10/17/2006 by Alexander Kornbrust with Application Security, Inc. (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2006-5336 since 10/17/2006. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. A authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1505 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56054 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (October 2006 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19211 (Oracle October 2006 Security Update Multiple Vulnerabilities).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
