Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.50/6.16.10/6.17.0. Affected by this vulnerability is the function ath11k_qmi_m3_load of the component wifi. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: ath11k: fix NULL dereference in ath11k_qmi_m3_load() If ab->fw.m3_data points to data, then fw pointer remains null. Further, if m3_mem is not allocated, then fw is dereferenced to be passed to ath11k_err function. Replace fw->size by m3_len. Found by Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) with SVACE.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2025-39991 since 04/16/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
