Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Strapi up to 5.24.0. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown processing of the file /admin/renew-token endpoint. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a session expiration vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-613. According to WASC, "Insufficient Session Expiration is when a web site permits an attacker to reuse old session credentials or session IDs for authorization." As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Strapi uses JSON Web Tokens (JWT) for authentication. After logout or account deactivation, the JWT is not invalidated, which allows an attacker who has stolen or intercepted the token to freely reuse it until its expiration date (which is set to 30 days by default, but can be changed). The existence of /admin/renew-token endpoint allows anyone to renew near-expiration tokens indefinitely, further increasing the impact of this attack. This issue has been fixed in version 5.24.1.
The weakness was shared by Arkadiusz Marta. The advisory is shared at cert.pl. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2025-3930 since 04/25/2025. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 5.24.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at CERT Bund (WID-SEC-2025-2332). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
