Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.16.10/6.17.0. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function stm32_csi_start of the component media. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: stm32-csi: Fix dereference before NULL check In 'stm32_csi_start', 'csidev->s_subdev' is dereferenced directly while assigning a value to the 'src_pad'. However the same value is being checked against NULL at a later point of time indicating that there are chances that the value can be NULL. Move the dereference after the NULL check.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-40015 since 04/16/2025. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
