Upgrading the affected component is recommended.
Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.1.1. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects the function db_agl2size of the component fs. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs: jfs: fix shift-out-of-bounds in dbAllocAG Syzbot found a crash : UBSAN: shift-out-of-bounds in dbAllocAG. The underlying bug is the missing check of bmp->db_agl2size. The field can be greater than 64 and trigger the shift-out-of-bounds. Fix this bug by adding a check of bmp->db_agl2size in dbMount since this field is used in many following functions. The upper bound for this field is L2MAXL2SIZE - L2MAXAG, thanks for the help of Dave Kleikamp. Note that, for maintenance, I reorganized error handling code of dbMount.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2022-50567 since 10/22/2025. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
