Linux Kernel up to 6.0.2 omap dss_init_ports reference count

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability identified as critical has been detected in Linux Kernel up to 5.4.219/5.10.149/5.15.74/5.19.16/6.0.2. This affects the function dss_init_ports of the component omap. Performing a manipulation results in reference count. This vulnerability is identified as CVE-2022-50574. There is not any exploit available. You should upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 5.4.219/5.10.149/5.15.74/5.19.16/6.0.2. This affects the function dss_init_ports of the component omap. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a reference count vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-911. The product uses a reference count to manage a resource, but it does not update or incorrectly updates the reference count. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/omap: dss: Fix refcount leak bugs In dss_init_ports() and __dss_uninit_ports(), we should call of_node_put() for the reference returned by of_graph_get_port_by_id() in fail path or when it is not used anymore.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2022-50574 since 10/22/2025. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 276835 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2022-50574), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.

Upgrading to version 5.4.220, 5.10.150, 5.15.75, 5.19.17 or 6.0.3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 9d7af9b1624dd70b67354972d7297429e6372091/1f340e1c1c74d11c45a6e32663829b26acd4f47b/a5ce83e85d795ec98697039ecc518b21d5810adc/e55261beb86a15c190b2ff9090cb47bc06765353/8f7c4114db841497e1148598e22548dd1f700b22/8b42057e62120813ebe9274f508fa785b7cab33a is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
