Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.3.3. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function arc_serial_probe of the file drivers/tty/serial/arc_uart.c of the component serial. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: serial: arc_uart: fix of_iomap leak in `arc_serial_probe` Smatch reports: drivers/tty/serial/arc_uart.c:631 arc_serial_probe() warn: 'port->membase' from of_iomap() not released on lines: 631. In arc_serial_probe(), if uart_add_one_port() fails, port->membase is not released, which would cause a resource leak. To fix this, I replace of_iomap with devm_platform_ioremap_resource.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-53719 since 10/22/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
