AutomationDirect Productivity Suite up to 4.2.1.9 ProductivityService PLC Simulator path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in AutomationDirect Productivity Suite, Productivity 3000 P3-622 CPU, Productivity 3000 P3-550E CPU, Productivity 3000 P3-530 CPU, Productivity 2000 P2-622 CPU, Productivity 2000 P2-550 CPU, Productivity 1000 P1-550 CPU and Productivity 1000 P1-540 CPU up to 4.2.1.9. This affects some unknown functionality of the component ProductivityService PLC Simulator. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-23. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that should be within a restricted directory, but it does not properly neutralize sequences such as ".." that can resolve to a location that is outside of that directory. This is going to have an impact on integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

A relative path traversal vulnerability was discovered in Productivity Suite software version 4.4.1.19. The vulnerability allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to interact with the ProductivityService PLC simulator and create arbitrary directories on the target machine.

The weakness was released by Luca Borzacchiello as icsa-25-296-01. It is possible to read the advisory at cisa.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2025-59776 since 10/21/2025. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 10/24/2025). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the vulnerability database at EUVD (EUVD-2025-35735). Be aware that VulDB is the high quality source for vulnerability data.
