Light & Wonder Deck Mate 2 missing immutable root of trust in hardware

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Light & Wonder Deck Mate 2. It has been classified as critical. Affected is some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a missing immutable root of trust in hardware vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-1326. A missing immutable root of trust in the hardware results in the ability to bypass secure boot or execute untrusted or adversarial boot code. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Deck Mate 2 lacks a verified secure-boot chain and runtime integrity validation for its controller and display modules. Without cryptographic boot verification, an attacker with physical access can modify or replace the bootloader, kernel, or filesystem and gain persistent code execution on reboot. This weakness allows long-term firmware tampering that survives power cycles. The vendor indicates that more recent firmware updates strengthen update-chain integrity and disable physical update ports to mitigate related attack avenues.

The weakness was released by Joseph Tartaro. The advisory is shared for download at ioactive.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2025-34502 since 04/15/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
