Google WearOS prior 30-04-2025 Messages data authenticity

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Google WearOS. It has been classified as problematic. This affects an unknown function of the component Messages. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a data authenticity vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-345. The product does not sufficiently verify the origin or authenticity of data, in a way that causes it to accept invalid data. This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:

On Wear OS devices, when Google Messages is configured as the default SMS/MMS/RCS application, the handling of ACTION_SENDTO intents utilizing the sms:, smsto:, mms:, and mmsto: Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) schemes is incorrectly implemented. Due to this misconfiguration, an attacker capable of invoking an Android intent can exploit this vulnerability to send messages on the user’s behalf to arbitrary receivers without requiring any further user interaction or specific permissions. This allows for the silent and unauthorized transmission of messages from a compromised Wear OS device.

The weakness was shared by Gabriele Digregorio. It is possible to read the advisory at towerofhanoi.it. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2025-12080 since 10/22/2025. The exploitability is told to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
