Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 5.15.194/6.1.155/6.6.111/6.12.52/6.17.2. This affects the function platform_get_resource of the component bus. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a return value vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-252. The product does not check the return value from a method or function, which can prevent it from detecting unexpected states and conditions. The impact remains unknown. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bus: fsl-mc: Check return value of platform_get_resource() platform_get_resource() returns NULL in case of failure, so check its return value and propagate the error in order to prevent NULL pointer dereference.
The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2025-40029 since 04/16/2025. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/19/2026).
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 271905 (Linux Distros Unpatched Vulnerability : CVE-2025-40029), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 5.15.195, 6.1.156, 6.6.112, 6.12.53, 6.17.3 or 6.18-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability.
